Andrew Bright

Senior Consultant, Poten & Partners

I have almost 40 years of marine and shipping projects experience behind me, having spent my entire working life in the industry. Currently, as part of the Terminal and Marine Engineering Group at Poten & Partners, I am responsible for managing and working on ship type projects for a range of diverse clients. I spent 16 years before that at Wavespec, working up to Technical Director involved with projects for numerous vessel owners and charterers, financial organisations, and national utilities, which have included newbuild project management, concept vessel design, preparation of technical specifications, negotiation on shipyard contractual specifications and shipbuilding contracts, feasibility studies, plan approval, mooring analysis, model tests, sea trials, equipment FATs, and financial due diligence for conversions, dry dockings, and through life vessel operating costs.

I was involved with the delivery of over 70 newbuild LNG carriers during this time, as well as overseeing the General Approval from a classification society for a novel LNG tank design. My eight years in Lloyds Register previously included LNG carrier newbuild site supervision in South Korea, time as a Surveyor in the Oil, Chemical & Gas Tanker Group and as a Surveyor in the Ship Structures and Statutory Section in their London headquarters. Prior to this, I served an apprenticeship as a draughtsman at Swan Hunter Shipbuilding & Engineering Group, becoming a Senior Designer in their Naval Architecture department involved in the design of Royal Navy vessels, as well as other vessel types including Antarctic Research and cable laying vessels, before moving on to a role at Hamworthy Engineering developing high performance Schilling rudders to enhance vessel manoeuvring. I studied in Newcastle upon Tyne and Sunderland and hold qualifications In Naval Architecture and Shipbuilding Studies.
