Joongkyoo Kang graduated from Seoul National University with a bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering in 1990 and a master's degree in the same field in 1997. He has worked in various R&D departments and teams focused on structural technology, energy systems and gas technologies for Hanwha Ocean. 

Some of his notable positions include Head of Ship and Ocean Research Institute since May 2018 and Head of Hanwha Ocean R&D Institute since May 2023. Recently, he is also interested in LFS tank, Type B and Type C using high manganese steel.
