PP.16 Measuring and Reducing Emissions in the LNG Supply Chain

Thursday 13 July 2023
Paper Presentation | Summer Sessions | West Level 1, Rooms 121-122
Operations and Best Practice , LNG markets, Energy Security and Decarbonisation , Clear Filters - See Full Programme

Despite gas being the cleanest fossil fuel, reducing methane and other GHG emissions from the natural gas value chain remains critical to continue on the path towards the energy transition and achieving Net Zero goals. Improving the measuring, reporting and verification of emissions, as well as increasing the standardisation and transparency of the process are one of the key challenges of the industry. LNG2023 delegates attending this session will have a unique opportunity to take a closer look at the innovative solutions implemented by some of the top world-wide specialists including:

  • Guidelines for monitoring, reporting, verifying (MRV) methane and other greenhouse gas emissions
  • MRV methodology that avoids significant additional load on operators
  • The possible application of CCS (Carbon Capture and Sequestration)
  • Using carbon credits to offset emissions from LNG cargoes
